Happy Reformation Day!

On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther nailed the 95 Theses to the Wittenberg door, starting the Protestant Reformation. If you would like to read more of Martin Luther's works or more about Lutheranism, check out Project Wittenberg.

Oh, yeah...tomorrow's Halloween too.

New to the Blogroll

I have noticed that Joel Fuhrmann of Religious Left Watch has added me to his blogroll. I have added his excellent blog to my sidebar as well. I really like the premise behind Joel's blog. For all the talk there is about the "Religious Right", people forget that there's also a "Religious Left". And it seems to me that the latter group complains about the former group louder than anyone else.

Busy Week

I apologize for the lack of posts lately. I'm slammed at work, I'm busy at home and I haven't been feeling my best on top of all that. Posts will probably be kind of scarce the next week or so.

Defending Falwell

First of all, let me say, I'm no fan of Jerry Falwell. Although I'm a conservative Christian, I do not consider myself part of the "Religious Right" (a term I really hate, BTW). Falwell has always seemed too smug for his own good.

But I have to agree with this opinion piece in The American Prowler. I was disappointed in some bloggers for their knee-jerk condemnations of Falwell's remarks about Islam. Especially when many of them have said pretty much the same things themselves. It seems that they wanted to disagree with Falwell just because he's Falwell.

Update: Corrected for bad sentence structure.

Victims of the DC-Area Sniper

Last night, I read this article about the sniper victims. Seeing their faces and reading a little about their lives added to the sadness and anger I already feel about this situation. The latest victim of the sniper, Linda Franklin, had local ties -- her friend and former sister-in-law lives here in Pensacola. Here is the story about this on the website of a local TV station. From the article:

Turner says Franklin was the glue that held her family together. She planned family camping trips for all the nieces and nephews and kept them smiling with games and pranks.

Donna Turner/Sniper Victim Friend; "It makes me angry. We need to find out where these snipers are if it's one, two, or ten. It doesn't matter it's not fair because he's taken innocent people."

Franklin had beaten breast cancer and had been undergoing therapy after having a double mastectomy.

Her friend can't believe she survived cancer and then died in such a tragic way.

This is just sad beyond words. Family and friends robbed of a wonderful person in their lives, because some sicko wants to play God. Mrs. Franklin had survived breast cancer, only to be senselessly murdered by a monster.

Then there's this:

Will Turner and her family travel to Virginia for the funeral?

She hasn't decided yet.

She's afraid to travel to the area while the sniper is still on the loose.

I pray that they catch this evil person (or persons) soon, before he robs someone else of their life. Before he robs someone else of a beloved family member or friend.

I Can't Believe It's Not a Parody

Andrea Harris links to this bizarre essay by someone who doesn't want the Navy's Blue Angels to perform in San Francisco. Apparently, this person is serious. Here's an excerpt:

We can achieve the goal of ending the terrorist Navy's Blue Death flights as we will have a very broad ideological spectrum of support, with the support being heaviest among the voting population, namely the over age 40 population and the better-educated young people. Our public sentiment petition circulated in 1999 was strongly supported by the old of all political outlooks, and they are all voters. We turned in thousands of signatures to the Board of Supervisors.

Thus, the Declaration of Public Policy could read something like this:
The people of San Francisco oppose the air show of the Navy's Blue Angels over the City and County of San Francisco and demand that they never be invited to conduct an air show over the City and County of San Francisco again.

I have just one thing to say to the person who wrote this: BOO!

More MSTing Fun

The Norwegian Blogger does it again. This time, Mike and the ‘bots are riffing on some really bad poetry (subsidized by the taxpayers of New Jersey).

Now, if New Jersey must have writers of silly, left-wing poetry as poet laureate, I suggest they get The People’s Poet next time around.

I really like the new term coined by Lynn Sislo to describe the “anti-war” crowd -- Anti-Defense. I’m going to start using it myself.

Hurricane Lili

One week ago, I wondered if what was then Tropical Storm Lili would become a problem for the Gulf Coast. Now Lili is a full-scale, category 4 hurricane -- a Big One. It will hit the Louisiana coast in about ten hours. This is a very dangerous storm and it appears to be very tightly compacted. For this reason, if it follows its predicted course, it probably won't affect the Florida Panhandle that much. However, I'm afraid it will be devastating for Louisiana, which is still trying to recover from T.S. Isidore. Please keep the people of Louisiana in your prayers.
