Sick Update

I went to the urgent care doctor after leaving work early yesterday because I was coughing constantly, couldn't breath through my nose (even with the help of nasal spray) and could feel the cold moving down into my chest. Sure enough, I was getting bronchitis (again), so I got the usual: a Z-pack and Tussionex cough syrup. I'm still sick, but I'm getting better. Those two prescriptions always fix me right up. Now, if people and things at work would just quit irritating me...I definitely need to go home early again today.

For some reason, I'm really prone to getting bronchitis. Three years ago, I had it twice in four months. Since then, I've been lucky...until now.

Update: The roofers just arrived to put a new roof on my house. (The present one was damaged by Hurricane Ivan.) I'm glad about this, but it's going to be really noisy at my house the rest of the day!

I spent several years getting bronchitis every winter and then some. This pattern started when I was in my early teens. About 15 years I go I was dx with mild intermittent asthma, given an inhaler and some instructions, and now I get bronchitis only very rarely.
You might want to talk to your doc about doing some pulmonary function studies once you are past the acute stage of this.

Hi Alicia,

I do need to talk to my regular doctor about this. I always thought that maybe it was because I grew up around a lot of cigarette smoke (my Dad was a heavy smoker). Cigarette smoke used to not bother me at all, but now it makes me cough and makes my eyes burn.

My husband is subject to bronchitis and also had mild asthma as a child. Both of his parents smoked at the time of his birth, though his mother gave it up due to severe asthma. His father, sadly, died over 10 years ago. I hate family events with his family because his two sisters, his brother-in-law and his niece all smoke. I come home with a headache, a cough, and smelling like I spent all night in a bar.
I hope your medicine works quickly for you, Susan. I feel for those who have been damaged by cigarettes, especially those who had no choice.

Hi Barb,

Thank you...I'm starting to gradually feel better. My Dad died of lung cancer caused by smoking. He had tried to quit, but was never able to. My sister also smokes and she has not been able to quit either. Now, she gets annoyed if you even bring it up.
