That'll leave a mark!

Bryan Preston smacks InstaPilate around real good:

If you do want our support the next time you have a pet political issue like this, consider wireless hospice-blogging, get some hot able-bodied protester chicks (those disabled ones you've got outside that hospice give us all the creeps!) and send the pics to Instapundit.com. You're in Florida, so that shouldn't be too difficult. Miami Beach is right in your back yard. Get some "Thongs for Terri" and you'll have instasupport in the blogosphere.[...]

And whatever you do, drop the old Christianity crap. It just doesn't go with our hip, modern libertarian coffee-house vibe. Keep up the Jesus stuff and we'll assume she doesn't mind going "home" a little early to meet her God. That's what all you people want, right? We're working on a way to get rid of the rest of you too (just from the political scene of course--see Andrew Sullivan and Jeff Jarvis for a first look at our "theocrats" campaign), so you might want to check out becoming trendy humanists. It's really all for your own good.

Yes, it's harsh, but Reynolds and his fellow bloodless libertoids had it coming. Reading it was very cathartic. And it made Reynolds pout.

Comments

Now that Terri has died, I am feeling even more numb. I am trying to remember that we are commanded to "Rejoice in the Lord always" and to be thankful even (especially?) in adversity. But it is tough. I am really distressed that my children don't even seem to get it. It is truly scary.

Hi Alicia,

I'm both so sad and so angry right now. I almost posted a curse for those who incited for this in the latest post, but stopped myself. I may yet do it later in another post.

I think I will go ahead and open the comments on the latest post.

Cathartic--yes, that's the word all right. Brilliant post by Bryan.

The irony is that politically, I would normally be more in-line with Reynolds and other libertarian-leaning conservatives. That, however, was before they turned the court-ordered starvation of an innocent woman into a sideshow circus. Whatever you do, Reynolds, don't think about the elephant in the room. Just keep your eye on the fundamentalists . . . .

They've lost a lot of credibility with me. They really have.

Hi Ilyka,

Same here. And Bryan has another post where he takes Reynolds to task for obsessing on Randall Terry (an admittedly unsavory character -- especially because of the way he treated his first wife) and his support for Terri's cause, while ignoring the fact that George Felos is just as (if not more) whacked-out.

Oh, yes, Felos. Gerald Vanderleun at American Digest has been all over Felos' nuttiness. He actually bought a copy of Felos' book (shudder). Of course, it isn't the nuttiness that bothers me; it is, as Bryan points out, his ability to weld that nuttiness to law that is dangerous.

I think Baldilocks made a good point, too--the Schindlers needed any friend they could get and weren't in a position to be particular. I love how Reynolds, et. al. forget that it's Michael Schiavo who had access to the money from the malpractice suit; it was Michael who could afford the best legal representation, Michael who could afford to choose his associates. The Schindlers. conversely, could only throw themselves on the mercy of the country. The country came up short and now, I think, we have much to answer for.

Ilyka,

Another thing that appalled me about all this was the nastiness directed at the Schindlers. All they wanted was for their daughter/sister to be given a chance and not be starved and dehydrated to death. They were willing to care for her. But yet they were met with a lot of scorn from the media and the general public. Sad.

The country came up short and now, I think, we have much to answer for.

Yes, we sure do. :-(
