Commentary on Terri Schiavo's Autopsy Report

Basically, all I can do is say "amen" to this post by the Anchoress. Some excerpts:

So, the Terri Schiavo’s autopsy report came out. And it told us very little that was new. She was in a bad way. Her cortex was not “mush” or a “sack of fluid” but her brain was severely damaged. She was blind. Her brain was shrivelled. Hello? The woman was totally dehydrated and yes, when you are dehydrated your brain will shrink.

I haven’t read anyone, anywhere, who has written down that simple fact.

The autopsy confirmed what no one denied: Terri Schiavo was in bad shape. She was severely brain damaged. [...]

[The autopsy] does not answer the question of what, exactly happened to Terri Schiavo to cause such massive brain damage. It does not tell us if she was, as conventional wisdom insists, “bulimic.” It doesn’t tell us why broken wheelchairs were never fixed, why nurses who put washcloths into Terri’s hand would have them smacked out of her hand by a husband who would warn, “that is therapy.” [...]

What the Autopsy of Terri Schiavo tells us with enormous lucidity is that the Deatheaters appetites have been whetted. With the release of this report which - as I say - tells us almost nothing we didn’t know, the Deatheaters are not simply feeling vindicated, they are feeling victorious…not just victorious but…gleeful.

It seems to me that when an innocent life has been snuffed out, that is not, perhaps, a time for glee. Quite possibly it is a normal thing, in some circles, to celebrate the destruction of life and then move on to the next battle or party or “pressing issue.” To my way of thinking, when a world has ended, respectful silence is in order, as are time for remembering, and prayers for regretting where we have fallen short.

Also, don't miss this comment if you think living wills are the answer.

Update: Welcome all Dean's World readers! I've decided to open the comments up on this post.

Some months ago I received mail from family members of Terri Schiavo asking for help. I looked at what they had to say, contemplated it for a while, and decided to follow my conscience; it did not appear that the justice system w...

Are you as COMPLETELY OUT OF YOUR MIND as Terri's Arrogant Parents are?? The woman DID NOT WANT TO LIVE LIKE THAT!! It doesn't matter how YOU want to live OR how YOU think she should of lived. Once a person is married, parents have NO SAY!!! Her parents have other children AND grandchildren, why don't they Stop being so Negative Spiteful and Hateful and start appreciating the children and grandchildren they DO HAVE instead of turning into 2 Old Nasty Blind to the OBVIOUS FACTS people and let Terri REST IN PEACE!!!!

They are only making people sick of hearing all the Negative things they have to say, all it does is make people realize what Cold PIGHEADED people they Really are!! For them to think that the autopsy is wrong, fake or anything else is ABSURD!!! Like everyone is trying to cover something up!! GET A LIFE!! Before they or YOU start spouting off at the mouth about the autopsy, tell them to show the world their Medical degree!!!

Wow, Frank:

Basically, as long as you have spare kids, getting worked up over the loss of one is "arrogant"? Or even worse: "ARROGANT"!

Deatheaters sure are interesting. In precisely the same way a spitting cobra is.

Ulysses,

Yes, they are interesting. I mean, they just have to seek out blogs like this one to tell us what buttheads we are for objecting to a disabled woman being dehydrated to death. They are all-knowing oracles who just know what Terri wanted...and to think they call Terri's parents "arrogant". **rolling eyes**

Frank found this site via a Technorati search for "Terri Schiavo". His IP address is 65.104.249.194, which resolves to "foster.com", which is a law firm in Seattle, WA. I will not ban him just yet, although I don't usually put up with people coming here to yell at me and insult me (or other commenters). However, if he posts one more comment like that, he gets the boot.

I will let his comment stand as a perfect specimen of pro-killing-Terri trolldom. Note the complete demonization of her parents for the horrific crime of loving their daughter and wanting to care for her. Also note the Frequently Capitalized Words, the USE OF ALL CAPS and the multiple exclamation points!!!!!!!

One more thing I've noticed about trolls in general -- when they comment on posts that mainly excerpt and link someone else, they never have the guts to go to the linked blog and leave their droppings.

Frank,

Before they or YOU start spouting off at the mouth about the autopsy, tell them to show the world their Medical degree!!!

Does that apply to your side as well as my side? Do you have a medical degree?

One more thing: Please note that the Anchoress' post did not dispute the results of the autopsy and neither have I. She was addressing what questions could or could not be answered by the results. Try reading the post before commenting next time.
