Blogathon for Hurricane Katrina Relief

I found out from Kathy Shaidle at Relapsed Catholic that Thursday, September 1 is the day that blogs all over the world will be having a "blogburst" to encourage donations for Hurricane Katrina relief. InstaPundit* has a whole list of links to agencies that need donations.

Two charities that I recommend are Mercy Corps and Operation Blessing. Also, Amazon.com is collecting donations for the American Red Cross.

I'm going to forward-date this post for September 1 and it will stay at the top of the blog all through that day.

Update: More good charities to give to: LCMS World Relief and the Salvation Army.

*I know I've said some mean things about InstaPundit in the past, but I really appreciate that he's doing this.

We have survived this storm. I would like to say I will never stay during another hurricane again but I leave that up to God. We have power today and it's been off and on. My DSL is back up this evening, but the phone line is not working. Strange. W... [Read More]

Hi Susan, We are restored to power and I amazingly have DSL for now. What an awesome thing to hear in the midst of all the tragedy. People coming together regardless of differences. Amen to that! One thing I was gonna mention, many people are being taken to places like P'Cola and I heard on the radio people are needing immediate donations of things such as diapers and even pet food. To be given to the Catholic Social Services (not the shelters) and distributed to the victims of the storms. I don't have any way of finding out information since my cable is not receiving, but I am asking of anyone knows about it, or is close enough to the victims, instead of cash donations, these items are needed and to please pass along the info.
We survived and we were hit pretty hard here in West Mobile, but I am so blessed. My family in P'Cola and Milton are ok as well and I am glad you are up and sharing this for all of us.

Prayers for everyone. Thanks for sharing Susan and I am glad you are ok. :D

Hi Megan,

I'm glad to see you are back and are safe! :-) Mobile is experiencing the same things Pensacola did after Ivan. And, believe me, I understand the heartbroken and hopeless feeling you have in the aftermath of the storm. I could barely function the first few days after Ivan. But things will get better.

Today I got an email about the First United Methodist Church here in Pensacola which is collecting materials for "health kits" to send to the hurricane victims. Somebody at where I work is collecting the materials, so I'm going to pick up a few of the needed items when I go grocery shopping tomorrow. Here is a website that tells about the project and a picture of the items needed. Anybody reading this in Pensacola can also drop these items off at the church, which is downtown.

I think I will also put this information in a separate post...

Hi Susan, Yes it certainly is mind numbing to finally see what is in your own "back yard" so to speak. We have been staying in and not able to venture too far of course due to curfews and roads destroyed.

Thanks for sharing the links. I will 'borrowing" and sharing as well. Peace!

Hi Megan,

I remember that from Ivan...avoiding venturing out as much as possible. I was downright afraid to go away from the house. The cars had gas, but I would think things like, "What if I break down...what would I do?" I know it sounds silly and paranoid now, but, like I said, I was not in the best state of mind.
