Go ahead, call me a prude...

...I don't care. In fact, I'm proud to be a prude. Because articles like this make me sad. Apparently feminism fought for the right for women to be as skanky as they wanna be. And before I get accused of having a double standard, let me make something clear. I think that better behavior should be demanded from men, rather than worse behavior expected from women. Men should be castigated for being promiscuous as much as women should be, rather than being praised for being "studs".

I recently read a review for a book called Female Chauvinist Pigs, which, in light of the above article, sounds like something that's timely and right on target.

I refuse to rehash why I think the so-called "sexual revolution" has been a bad deal for women. If you want to read more on what I think of this subject, go here, here, here, here and here. Then when you are through reading those, read this.

Incidentally, I really look forward to Dawn Eden's book, which she mentions here. She is putting her blog on hiatus so that she can work on it. It sounds like the message in her book is one that desperately needs to be heard.

BTW, if you disagree with this post, please read all of the above links before commenting. Otherwise, I will not take your comment seriously and I will ignore you. In other words, don't be a butthead. (Yes, I'm in one of those moods.)

I thought that this quote in the article about the Hef was particularly apt (but I'm glad I read the whole thing!):
"In Hugh Hefner's world, meanwhile, equality for females has come to mean synonymity with males. Unisex clothing is: male. Unisex hairstyles are: male. Equal pay for equal work is: male (inasmuch as it assumes the irrelevance of childbirth, and certainly of childrearing). Thanks largely to Hefner's pioneering spirit, men have won every battle in the modern war between the sexes. Where women are free and equal, they are free and equal to be men."

Hi Jami,

That is an excellent article, isn't it? I have linked it numerous times on this blog because I wish everyone in the world could read it. There is also a version of it on, I think, the Christianity Today website, but that version is rather toned down, so it loses some of its bite. That's why I prefer to link the Godspy version.

Hi!

I came across your blog through a link and I've read only this post so far. I love it! Reading stuff like this on blogs is like a breath of fresh air, as I usually say. Thanks for posting it.

Sure hope you can pass by either of my blogs sometime: http://notjustforsuperheroes.blogspot.com or http://fromwomb2tomb.blogspot.com =)

Cheers!

Hi Sunnyday,

You're welcome, and thank you for the kind words! :-) I like your blogs too, BTW. It looks like we are concerned about the same issues.

Prude, schmude. I think you are spot on.

Consider "The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists." Perhaps not surprisingly, the book appears on the NYT bestseller list.

Consider one reader/reviewer, a male, who calls women "girls" and, revealingly, puts snigger quotes around the word "you." Below, the "impossible" is the woman ("girl") with whom a man want sexual intimacy but rules out as too hard to get:

- "The author redefines and proves with his story that 'impossible' is [only] what 'you' think is 'impossible.' It takes guts, brains and even sly techniques to redefine the 'impossible' and attract/lay girls you have never thought would be interested in you. I enjoyed this book very much and now approach women with greater confidence and skills."

Or this rebuttal (of sorts) by a woman (of a sort):

- "Come on guys, this book is a joke! Women are not just objects of desire to be sampled at your will. And I am not some uptight dyke who hates men. I used to be an exotic dancer so i have had ... thousands of men hit on me, and I have probably slept with a least 100 guys, but this book will lead you down the wrong path. Lets be honest. [Y]ou need at least one of three things to get women: 1. money; 2. power, or 3. good looks. If you have all three, you get laid all the time."

Remember that the cautionary note -- that women are "not objects of desire" to be "sampled" -- is brought to you courtesy of an exotic dancer. (And if I hear another woman say that money and power are the keys to attracting women, I'm gonna jump out a window (first floor, of course). Oh, the dancer concludes by suggesting what might be termed "layable literature." "Forget this book, if you [are] looking for thrills and adventure, check out "Tourist in the Yucatan." [Y]ou read good books, you might get laid more!"

I think reading this book -- and reading of the post ands links on "better behavior" -- reminds that sometimes out society is like a breath of stale air. There is decay out there, and you can taste it on your tongue.

Hi Thomas,

You're welcome...and thank you! :-) I titled this post as I did because I'm tired of people apologetically saying things like, "I'm not a prude, but..." and then writing about moral decay. I know that judging from today's standards, I am a prude and I am absolutely not ashamed of it. I ought to start a "Prude Pride" movement! ;-)

The book and rebuttal you point out perfectly demonstrates the problem we have. The "sexual revolution" has enabled promiscuous men to treat all women like prostitutes, and far too many women are willing to act like prostitutes in the name of sexual "freedom".

And if I hear another woman say that money and power are the keys to attracting women, I'm gonna jump out a window (first floor, of course).

I hate statements like that, too. Yes, there are shallow, idiotic women. There are women who chase after a man because he drives a certain kind of car. There are women (groupies) who chase after a man just because he is a musician or actor -- if the exact same guy were, say, a plumber or a computer programmer, these same skanks would not give him the time of day. But I would like to think that these dumb broads are in the minority. They are an embarrassment to women.
