Kidnapped "Peace" Activists in Iraq

I went off on a tangent commenting on my capital punishment post. The tangent has to do with this story.

I have just a couple of things to add. First, if these guys are really peace activists and pacifists, it seems to me they should be evenhanded in the way they condemn violence and war. But they aren't. This is why I put "peace" in scare-quotes and why I think this is simply an anti-American outfit trying to pass itself off as being a peace group.

Second, I have to say an "amen" to this post by Steve H.:

Why didn't they protest Hussein's millions of atrocities, which were committed openly and as a matter of policy? Why are minor American sins worth protesting, when huge, egregious, Hitler-scale Iraqi sins don't even justify a press conference?

Answer: because peace isn't what these people are about. They're about shitting on the USA.

I pray that no American soldier lifts a finger to help them. Our brave fighting men and women have no business risking their precious blood for America-hating attention whores who undermine the troops who offer their lives to protect their right to whine and obstruct.

You say you're a peacemaker? Fine. Make peace with your captors. Show us how diplomacy works with these people. This is your defining moment. Talk your captors into setting you free, and make fools of everyone who supports our troops and our President.

Yes, this post and the post below are related. Values turned inside out and upside down. The desire to call for the freedom of murdering thugs, and to ignore the silent victims who did not ask to be killed. Sadly, the only explanation I can see is that the "peace" protestors are indeed really all about hating America. At least these people had the integrity to act on their words, instead of sitting around holding a sign, then going back to their comfortable American home and the comfortable American lifestyle afforded to them by the American way of life. Steve's right; they got what they wanted. It may be they will regret it. Hope you have a restful weekend so you are not so tired! :)

Hi Barb,

Thank you! :-) While my weekend could have been more restful, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. This week has been awful, though. I may post about it or I may not. It has been awful, but in a very non-exciting mundane way.

As for our misguided little pacifist friends...I was reading on another blog where someone was approvingly quoted as saying the following, "Why is it that non-pacifists find pacifists so threatening?" Well, I wanted to respond to this post but just haven't had the time and energy. I may later, and if I do, this is what I'm going to say:

I find pacifism threatening because it brings misery to a lot of people. It appeases tyrants. It rationalizes violence by terrorists, criminals and thugs while castigating people for trying to defend themselves and their families, loved ones and country. The pacifist thinks that policemen and military people are no better -- or actually worse -- than common criminals or terrorists. The pacifist is the one who will passively look on while his wife is being raped and not do a damned thing to help her, because he doesn't want to sully his pure and wonderful self by using force. The pacifist will stand by and watch her children be murdered because she doesn't want to "lower herself" and be "just like the murderers". If pacifists would keep their damned, stupid philosophy to themselves, I would have no problem with them. Let them isolate themselves in their little bubbles like the Amish do. It's when they act like the self-righteous busybodies they are and try and force their stupidity on me and the rest of the world is when I have a problem with them.

So, yeah, I dislike pacifists intensely.
