My Accent
I took this quiz I found over at the Anchoress' and was a bit surprised at the results. I have a Southern accent. It's not thick or "rednecky", but I do have one.
I think the reason for these results is I live in Florida (even if it is the Panhandle) and a lot of military folks from all over the country live here. Also, my Dad was not from the South...he was born in Los Angeles. (He was here because he was in the Navy when he met my Mom.)
| What American accent do you have? Your Result: The Midland "You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio. |

Class Meme
Barb tagged me with the following meme:
...devise a list of 5-10 courses you would take to fix your life. It's more fun to be in classes with friends, so include one class from the person who tagged you that you'd also like to take.
As is my custom, I won't tag anybody specifically, but if you feel like doing this one, consider yourself tagged.
Okay, here are my answers...
Sewing: This is the class I would like to take with Barb, who loves to sew. I'm a complete spaz when it comes to sewing, so I would love to learn how to do it well.
Cold-Process Soap Making: I make melt-and-pour soap, but I would like to learn to make it from scratch. Learning it in a class environment would be better than me struggling through it by myself. Messing with lye makes me nervous.
Piano: My late brother inherited all the musical talent, but I always wished I could play an instrument. I dabbled in learning the guitar when I was a teenager but I didn't stick with it. I didn't seem to have the needed dexterity. Also, I didn't like having to keep my fingernails short. I always thought I would like to learn to play a keyboard instrument.
Perfumery: I have dabbled in making up my own scents when making soap, but I would love to learn more about combining scents and making new perfumes.
Concealed Carry Training: I have always wanted to go through the training to get a concealed carry license. And improving my marksmanship would be great, too.

Breaking the Silence
After an impromptu over two-week hiatus (due to not feeling well), I've decided to break the ice with a few quizzes.
This one kind of surprised me. I really thought I was more observant than this:
|
Your Observation Skills Get A C+
|
You tend to notice the big things in life...
But the details aren't exactly your forte
|
This one seems about right. If some of the questions were worded differently, I may have answered differently. For example, I would have agreed with question 3 if it would have stopped with the first sentence...the second sentence was the deal-breaker.
|
You Are 52% Feminist
|
You aren't a total traditionalist when it comes to gender roles. But you're no feminist either.
You generally think that women should be treated as equals, but you're not convinced the world should be gender neutral.
|
(Both quizzes via Jen.)
Then I took the following long quiz that I saw over at Barb's. I don't know much about Jane Austen. I could have just as easily gotten Barb's result -- Elinor Dashwood -- but answering a tie-breaker question resulted in this:

Elizabeth Bennet, As one of Austen's most beloved characters, Elizabeth Bennet represents what most women would like to become: strong, independent, and loyal. Of course, she has her faults including a stubborn will of iron and a clinging to first impressions. Overall, Lizzie is bright and lovable...something to admire and aspire to.
Elizabeth Bennet | | 78% |
Elinor Dashwood | | 78% |
Jane Bennet | | 53% |
Emma Woodhouse | | 50% |
Charlotte Lucas | | 47% |
Marianne Dashwood | | 44% |
Lady Catherine | | 19% |

Seven Things About Me
Barb tagged me and so now I have to post seven random, uninteresting things about me. So here they are:
1. I never really learned how to swim. I can backstroke and dog-paddle just a little, but not good enough for me to take a chance in the deep end of a pool.
2. My Mom wanted to name me Susan or Sherry and my Dad wanted me to name me Susannah. I kind of wish my Dad had won out because Susannah is prettier and isn't as common. But I'm glad my Mom picked Susan instead of Sherry. (No offense to anyone named Sherry.)
3. I'm 5'8" tall.
4. I'm a natural blond, although I get highlights to brighten it up a bit.
5. I used to get an upset stomach every time I ate raw apples, but I have grown out of that in recent years.
6. I cannot eat raw onion because I will have indigestion for days if I do.
7. I can have a very juvenile sense of humor and have been known to laugh uncontrollably at fart jokes.
I can't think of who to tag with this, so if you read this, consider yourself tagged (if you want).

Moral Outlook
Dean links to this quiz: The Taboo Game. My results:
Your Moralising Quotient is: 0.83.
Your Interference Factor is: 0.00.
Your Universalising Factor is: 1.00.
There was no inconsistency in the way that you responded to the questions in this activity. It is likely that you think that what makes any of these actions morally problematic has to do with God or some other source of morality external to nature, society and human judgement. You indicated that an act can be wrong even if it is entirely private and no one, not even the person doing the act, is harmed by it. There is nothing contradictory then in a claim that the actions depicted in these scenarios are morally problematic.
Update: There's one thing I'd like to clarify about this quiz. On the questions where you are asked if the people engaging in immoral acts that supposedly harm nobody should be punished...I was a bit confused as to who should do the punishing. If they mean that government or vigilantes would punish them (and that's how I took it), I would say no. However, that doesn't mean that God shouldn't or wouldn't punish them.
